Family Fun!

Last night I got to go out on the river from Avonmore to Roaring Run.  While the trip only lasted 3 hours it was most fun I’ve had in a long time.  Evelyn, myself, my nephew, his girlfriend, and my Dad (who is in his seventies) made the trip.  Along the way we found my favorite rope swing and stopped to try it out and swim.  The water was perfect!  We ate, drank and polished off a bunch of snacks.  After we pulled out, we spotted our second Great Blue Heron of the day.  We were able to quietly paddle to within 20 yards before it took flight.  The highlight of the trip was yet to come.  As we passed the point where Roaring Run enters the Kiski we spotted a Bald Eagle!  It was resting in a dead snag and took off directly over top of us.  What a way to end the trip!  Life is better on the river.

Exciting Times!

These truly are exciting times here at The River’s Edge!  In the past week I was elected President of the Roaring Run Watershed Association.  We are an environmental group who have been improving, protecting, and preserving the Roaring Run watershed for the last 25 years.  It is quite an honor for me to hold this position.  We have great plans for our rails to trails system and the future of this organization is very bright.   Please consider joining our group  or at the very least making a small donation(http://www.roaringrun.org).   We are a 501c3  registered  charity  and are  doing  great things for the  environment.  Also in the last week the Bald Eagle flew past the shop here in Leechburg several times!  Many of my customers over the last week have spotted it up and down the river, along with Osprey and Great Blue Heron.  Three of my friends swear they saw a 6-7 foot long Paddlefish in the Kiski near Vandergrift.  These fish were stocked by the PA Fish Commission since 1991.  The leaves are now at the peak for Fall foliage, the fishing is fantastic and the river is gorgeous.  Come see what your missing!
